Apple adds nearly $20 billion to revenue, doubles Q1 profit
Apple Inc. sold about 380,000 iPhones per day in the first quarter, and added nearly $20 billion to its revenue, bringing in $46.33 billion. A year ago in the same quarter, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) had revenue of $26.74 billion. The Cupertino computer, iPod, iPad and iPhone maker earned $13.06 billion in the 14-week quarter ended December. Wells Fargo economist says ‘true’ housing recovery could be decade away
Wells Fargo Securities says a national housing rebound could take a decade to arrive despite recent data suggesting an improvement in housing. “While home prices may finally reach a bottom on 2012, prices will likely not rebound nationally in a significant way anytime soon, so long as vacancy levels remain elevated,” Mark Vitner, senior economist at Wells Fargo Securities, told clients in a 12-page special report this month. Yahoo Q4 profit drops 5% to $296 million
Internet search and advertising business Yahoo Inc. earned $295.6 million in the December quarter, down 5 percent from the $312 million it earned a year earlier in the same quarter. Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) had revenue of $1.324 billion in the fourth quarter, down from revenue of $1.525 billion a year earlier. Recurly Inc., a subscription billing technology provider, has raised a $6 million Series A financing round led by BV Capital, with Polaris Venture Partners, Harrison Metal Capital and FreeStyle Capital participating. Founded in 2009, San Francisco-based Recurly automates recurring billing management for some 750 subscription-based technology and publishing businesses around the world. The S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation pledged $25 million toward Caltech campus life and outreach programs.
