Jim Harbaugh staying at Stanford through 2014

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh's long-awaited three-year contract extension is finally official. The school announced a deal on Sunday that keeps Harbaugh under contract through 2014. The two sides were close to announcing the extension last year but put it on hold because of the troubled economy.

Mo'Nique, Waltz win LA critics' supporting honors

Mo'Nique has won the supporting-actress award for "Precious" and Christoph Waltz has earned the supporting-actor prize for "Inglourious Basterds" from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Mo'Nique won for her role as a hateful welfare mother in "Precious: Based on the Novel `Push' by Sapphire." Waltz won for playing a gleefully savage Nazi in "Inglourious Basterds."

WR Heyward-Bey out for Raiders vs. Redskins

Rookie receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is inactive for a second straight week for the Oakland Raiders because of a foot injury. The Raiders also placed left guard Robert Gallery on injured reserve before Sunday's game against Washington and signed Roy Schuening from the practice squad. Other players inactive are receivers Javon Walker and Nick Miller, linebacker David Nixon, defensive lineman William Joseph and offensive lineman Khalif Barnes.

Motorist killed after crash with VTA trolley

Light rail service through Milpitas is operating again after a fatal collision involving a car and a Valley Transportation Authority trolley. VTA spokeswoman Jennie Loft says a motorist was killed when he turned left in front of a light rail train just before 7 p.m. Saturday.

Calif. rains ending, no major mudslides reported

Heavy rain tapered off, skies cleared and residents of the Los Angeles area foothills started returning home Sunday, a day after they fled because of fears that heavy rains would cause mudslides. Public works and fire department officials drove through the wildfire-scarred neighborhoods early Sunday and determined that it was safe for the residents of the 44 evacuated homes in the La Crescenta, La Canada-Flintridge and Big Tujunga Canyon areas to return, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Lillian Peck.

Winning numbers in the 'SuperLotto Plus' game

No ticket matched all six numbers drawn for the California Lottery's "SuperLotto Plus" game Saturday night, which had a jackpot of $39 million. The numbers drawn were: 3, 5, 6, 30, 32; Meganumber 17.

More rain on way for Northern California

Forecasters say more rain is on the way after a wet weekend across Northern California. After heavy rains soaked the region Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service says another storm system will bring more heavy rain to the area late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
